Objective-C’s Programming History Revealed

An analysis of why C is so important in programming reveals the sordid history and origins of Objective-C.  In his blog, Steven Vaughan-Nichols walks us through the use of C in almost every phase of developer history. Objective-C has roots in Smalltalk, an original message-based language that is a predecessor to event-driven programming.  While gaining in popularity over the past few years, Objective-C is still not in the top-ten programming languages used. Nickelodeon Joins Disney Apps on the iPad

Nickelodeon announced the release of two new iPad apps available in the App Store that are targeted to kids using the iPad. The two applications, Dora the Explorer and Daily Jigsaw for $4.99 and .99 respectively.   Of the two apps, Dora looks to be the better (hence the higher price) with a lot of fun, creative things for kids to do on the iPad. Last week, Disney’s iPad announcement was that it would launch several paid and free applications for the iPad. MuscleNerd Releases Spirit Jailbreak For iPad, iPhone OS 3.2

On Monday, MuscleNerd announced their successful jailbreak of the iPad and iPhone 3G devices called Spirit.  A jailbreak is a way that developers actually “hack” into the operating system of the iPad tablet pc and remove the protection that forces owners to only go through the App Store for their software. A device that has a jailbreak applied will then be allowed to have their own software or bootleg songs and software without going through iTunes or Apple’s store.  It also allows a device to be “unlocked” and usable outside of the mandatory AT&T carrier service.
